Minister Konaković participated in the GLOBSEC Forum 2026 in Prague

On May 23, 2026, Elmedin Konaković, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, participated in the GLOBSEC Forum 2026 held in Prague, Czech Republic.

This twenty-first edition of the GLOBSEC Forum, one of Europe’s most significant strategic gatherings, took place under the theme "Global Systemic Transformation" and was hosted by the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel. The forum brought together world leaders, innovators, and change agents to discuss Europe's strategic position in a rapidly evolving global environment. Discussions ranged from redefining alliances and shaping global governance to enhancing pragmatic transatlantic cooperation.

Minister Konaković took part in a panel discussion titled "Behind the Waiting Room: Rethinking the Enlargement of the European Union." He emphasized that European integration for Bosnia and Herzegovina is not merely a political goal but a security imperative and a long-term investment in peace, democratic resilience, and prosperity. He noted that today, the enlargement policy is one of the European Union’s most crucial strategic instruments for strengthening stability, resilience, and geopolitical influence in Europe. This policy helps reduce the influence of malign external forces, strengthens democratic institutions, improves regional connectivity, and deepens economic integration through the Single Market. The Minister emphasized that the European perspective must remain visible, attainable, and based on fair and objective criteria, accompanied by clear political engagement from the European Union and consistent implementation of reforms by candidate countries.

The Minister warned that Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently facing its most complex political crisis since the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement. This crisis is characterized by increasingly dangerous rhetoric aimed at undermining the constitutional order and state institutions, with political obstructions that hinder the country's European aspirations. He emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina stands at a crossroads, facing two opposing futures: one of European progress grounded in reforms, cooperation, and democratic development, and another marked by blockades, instability, and institutional deterioration.

Konaković particularly stressed the need for stronger and clearer engagement from the European Union, visible support for pro-European forces within the country, and a transparent and responsible process for appointing a new High Representative. He highlighted the importance of maintaining the Office of the High Representative's full role as a key element in protecting the constitutional order, the Dayton framework, and the institutional stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In addition to Minister Konaković, the panel included Albania's Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha; Romania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana-Silvia Țoiu;President of the National Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabić; and former Federal Chancellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria, Alexander Schallenberg.
