Minister Konaković at the ceremonial opening of the Honorary Consulate of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zadar

On May 29, 2026, Elmedin Konaković, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, visited Zadar to officially inaugurate the Honorary Consulate of Bosnia and Herzegovina, alongside Gordan Grlić Radman, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.

Minister Konaković emphasized that the establishment of the consulate marks a significant advancement in strengthening bilateral relations and reaffirms the trust and friendship between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. He emphasized the importance of opening the consulate in Zadar, a city historically known as a crossroads of peoples, ideas, and cultures. Minister Konaković recognized the citizens living and working in Croatia as a vital bridge connecting the two countries. He assured attendees that the consulate would not only serve as a diplomatic institution but also as a space for support, new ideas, partnerships, and initiatives. He noted the robust economic ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, pointing out that Croatia is a key investor and trading partner for Bosnia and Herzegovina. The increasing presence of Bosnian companies in Croatia serves as a testament to the evolving economic partnership built on mutual interest and long-term development. The Minister also discussed the new Law on Foreigners in Croatia and the resolution of D visa issues for professional drivers from Bosnia and Herzegovina. He regarded this as an important step for the transport and logistics sector and an example of how practical and sustainable solutions can emerge through collaborative dialogue. He expressed gratitude to Croatia for its unwavering support of Bosnia and Herzegovina's European integration path, stating that such support not only aids in the progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina but also contributes to regional stability and prosperity.

Minister Konaković extended his congratulations to Snježana Köpruner, the newly appointed Honorary Consul of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zadar. He praised her previous work and dedication, viewing her as a model of vision, responsibility, and community commitment. He expressed confidence that she would fulfil her new role with the same energy and commitment, wishing her success.

Following the ceremony, Minister Konaković had a bilateral meeting with Minister Grlić Radman. They spoke about enhancing cooperation and joint projects of mutual significance, such as the Southern Gas Interconnection project, which aims to link the gas systems of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. This project is crucial for the energy security of both countries and the region. They also examined challenges posed by the new Entry/Exit System border regulations, stressing the need for practical and sustainable solutions in conjunction with European institutions to prevent congestion and facilitate entry, thereby ensuring the continuity of regional connectivity and mobility. The ministers noted the progress made in recent months, including the Agreement on Border Crossings, which is nearing final approval before being signed and is expected to improve connectivity,expedite the movement of people and goods, and enhance economic and tourism cooperation.

Additionally, the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the surrounding region was discussed, particularly regarding security challenges. Minister Konaković underscored the importance of collaboration with international partners, the continued role of the Office of the High Representative (OHR), and the selection of a future High Representative who understands Bosnia and Herzegovina's complexities and is committed to the nation's stability, peace, and European perspective.

Minister Grlić Radman reaffirmed Croatia's strong support for Bosnia and Herzegovina's European integration and its readiness to continue offering political, diplomatic, and expert assistance throughout the European integration process. He emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum in reforms related to the rule of law, the judiciary, and the functioning of institutions.
